Public Transport

    Libero

The public transport network in Berne is called Libero and it maintains a great offer of busses, tramways and trains (42 zones).

The city consists of zone 10/11, and depending on where you live in Berne it might be advisable to buy a monthly libero ticket for 70 CHF. The ticket can be purchased online or at the Libero-Shop at Bubenbergplatz 5 in the city center.

If you only use the transportation system occasionally it is best to buy multi-trip cards for 1-2 zones or for short distances (available at the Libero-Shop or at kiosks all around the city).

    SBB

Switzerland has a very good public transport system. You may practically get anywhere you want by train and/or bus (Postbus).

The Swiss Federal Railway SBB (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen) offers a special railpass called Halbtax which allows you to purchase tickets at half price. The railpass costs 150 CHF and is valid for 12 months. You can also use the railpass to buy cheaper tickets of local transportation providers like for example Libero in Berne (valid for almost all tickets except the monthly ticket).
