Visa and Insurance

    ERASMUS Students

Students of EU nationality do not need a visa to study in Switzerland. However they have to apply for a residence permit at the city administration within 8 days after their arrival in Berne. For travelling to Switzerland a passport or identity card is sufficient (valid for at least 6 months after the end of stay in Switzerland).

Students from EU/EFTA countries need to bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Information on what is covered by the card can be obtained at your local insurance provider in your home country. It might be advisable to buy an additional insurance for travels abroad.

    Non-EU Students

Students from all other countries need to get a visa at a Swiss representation in their home country. A health insurance can be purchased in the home country (valid for Switzerland) or in Berne after arrival.
