AI in the classroom: Ethical Reflection on AI-based Workflows

Deutsch

The project focuses on visualising AI-based workflows. Following an examination focusing on the ethical principles of responsibility and integrity, recommendations for action and use cases will be developed as concrete output for the daily practice of teachers and an interested specialist audience.

Project description

AI applications are omnipresent and are used in workflows (work processes) at different intensities: e.g. at high intensity as task performers, at medium intensity as assistants/question answerers/dialogue partners or at low intensity as idea providers. The poles of AI intensity (alternative term: degree of AI utilisation) form process steps of the workflow that are either completely AI-free or are performed autonomously by AI. This project will compile, test and visualise effective workflows for different tasks for teachers. The question is what effectiveness means in the different contexts and how it can be defined in the school context. The concept of efficiency is deliberately avoided.

In addition, the interaction between teachers, learners and the AI applications used gives rise to new constellations that also raise questions that have not yet been addressed. In particular, this project will pose questions in the area of (personal or procedural) integrity and the allocation of responsibilities, and answer them through an ethical discourse. Workflow templates, reflection aids and use cases including recommendations for action will be available as concrete output at the end of the project for both teachers and an interested specialist audience.
